Giving back has always been at the heart of Chartway Federal Credit Union and its divisions of HeritageWest and SouthWest Community and 2015 was no exception.
The success of the credit union's We Promise Foundation's 2015 fundraisers have helped make a difference in children's lives. From its 10th Annual Diamonds in the Sky Gala to its 17th Annual Charity Golf Classic attended by various public figures including LPGA player Jill McGill, the Foundation successfully raised a total of $945,000 in 2015. Since 1999, the Chartway Family of Credit Unions and its We Promise Foundation have raised more than $8 million while delivering smiles to the faces of thousands of children.
Striving to make each fundraising event an experience the kids won't forget, We Promise volunteers welcomed children like Haniah to the Gala by giving them high-fives as they stepped out of a limousine and traveled across a red carpet rolled out just for them.
In addition, We Promise heroes like Jessica and Zoe were profided selfie sticks to capture special moments snapping selfies.
LPGA Pro Jill McGill also took time to strike a pose with a few the 10 children she teed off with during the charity golf event.
The foundation board has approved grants to the following non-profits: The Make-a-Wish Foundation of Greater Virginia, The Make-a-Wish Foundation of Utah, Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters, St. Mary's Home for Disabled Children, Roc Solid Foundation, Toby's Dream Foundation, EQUI-KIDS, Families of Autistic Children of Tidewater, The Matty Fund and Ability Found.
“We are immensely grateful for our sponsors, our volunteers and all our supporters who enabled our We Promise Foundation to raise so much in 2015,” Foundation chairman Phil Richards said. “As a result, we are honored ot have the opportunity to give charitable grants to those organizations that share our mission to give children battling life-threatening illnesses the gift of their dreams coming true.”
