Cornerstone Credit Union League President/CEO Dick Ensweiler said Wednesday he plans to retire on April 30, 2017.
The Cornerstone board formed a search committee and retained the executive search services of Credit Union Resources to conduct a nationwide search for the new CEO. Marcus Cotton, executive recruiter with Credit Union Resources, will lead the national search.
"I have been blessed and honored to serve credit unions in many capacities over the span of more than five decades dating back to my first credit union job working as a management trainee at State Central Credit Union in Milwaukee and then as treasurer/manager of the Harley Davidson Credit Union, also in Milwaukee," Ensweiler said in a prepared statement.
Following the successful consolidation of three state leagues and their respective service corporations and foundations in July 2013, Cornerstone's board worked with Ensweiler on a contract that ensured continuity and stability, Cornerstone Board Chair Kenny Harrington, president/CEO of $196 million MemberSource Credit Union in Houston, said.Ensweiler began his career with the Texas Credit Union League in 1995 at one of the low points in the association's history and successfully transformed the association.
"Today, Cornerstone is the largest regional credit union trade association in the country and has been established as one of the most respected and effective organizations advocating on behalf of credit unions. Much of that success and recognition is a result of Dick's leadership," Harrington said. "We are grateful to him and the Cornerstone staff for their service to our industry and how Cornerstone has been successfully positioned to be a leader in the credit union movement well into the future."
Since the Cornerstone league began its operations in July 2013, the board credited Ensweiler with leading the league's advocacy victories in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas, establishing a successful member engagement program, attracting nine new member credit unions in 2015, facilitating record contributions and fundraising contributions for Cornerstone's foundation and achieving a record net promoter score of 75 from member credit unions.
Prior to joining the Texas Credit Union League, Ensweiler worked as senior vice president of corporate relations at CUNA Mutual Group. He also served as president of the Minnesota Credit Union League and the Illinois Credit Union League and affiliates.
