The $2 billion Chartway FCU and its divisions of HeritageWest and SouthWest Community Credit Unions partnered with employees and members to collect a record number of toys to support the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program. Supporters of the Virginia Beach, Va.-based cooperative exceeded its goal of 3,200 items, collecting 4,183 new, unwrapped toys for children in its communities.
“It's an absolute honor to have the opportunity to work alongside people who care for our credit union family and our communities as much as they do. These results reflect our generosity of spirit – a culture rooted in helping others, financially and charitably. Our employees and members have much to be proud of,” President/CEO Brian Schools said.
In addition to supporting the Toys for Tots Drive, Chartway and its divisions made contributions to several other charities throughout the year, including the Samaritan House, the Salvation Army and the American Red Cross.
The organization's charitable arm – the We Promise Foundation – also raised nearly $900,000 this year through fundraisers including its Diamonds in the Sky Gala and Charity Golf Classic. The foundation makes dreams come true for children battling life-threatening illnesses.
