In addition to new hires and promotions taking place throughout the nation, this week's People column highlights CEO retirements as well as executives who were recognized for their leadership.

EAST

Janelle Kaczmarek was appointed chief financial officer of the $176 million NET Credit Union in Olyphant, Pa. She holds 28 years of experience in the financial services industry and previously served as a director of internal audit for a savings association.

The $405 million People's Credit Union in Middletown, R.I. promoted Jane McDurman to vice president of retail and member experience. Prior to joining People's 2012, she served as vice president of retail operations at the Community Bank in Brockton, Mass. She also worked for Fleet Bank and the New Bedford Institution for Savings.

Dennis Flickinger will retire at the end of the month after 26 years of service as president/CEO of the $163 million First Capital Federal Credit Union in York, Pa. Before joining First Capital in January 1990, he worked in financial management for the U.S. Army for 21 years. The board of directors and senior managers announced the board room and the credit union's scholarship program were named in Flickinger's honor.

The $6.1 billion Bethpage Federal Credit Union in Bethpage, N.Y. appointed Derek Gussaroff as a mortgage loan originator for outside sales. He previously served as a mortgage loan originator for New Penn Financial in Melville, N.Y.

Patti Columbe, treasurer/CEO of the $16.4 million Keystone United Methodist Federal Credit Union will retire at the end of the month. Since taking the helm of the Cranberry Township, Pa.-based credit union in January 2000, she helped increase membership by 40%, and in 2003, she secured a new charter from a clergy-only charter to one that opened the cooperative to serve all United Methodist church members.

Barb Bowker, vice president of marketing and membership development for the $4.3 billion PSECU in Harrisburg, was elected to the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry board of directors. The statewide association advocates for public policy issues that will expand private sector job creation.

MIDWEST

The $391 million Security Credit Union in Flint, Mich. promoted Butch King from assistant vice president of real estate and loss prevention to assistant vice president of lending. He joined the SCU team in 2013 as a loss prevention manager.

Jon Seeman, chief financial officer for the $801 million SPIRE Credit Union in Falcon Heights, Minn. was awarded the CFO of the Year award by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal. Under Seeman's leadership, several key changes were implemented to build SPIRE's capital position, and his efforts, in conjunction with a merger, improved the credit union's financials.

The $2.7 billion Veridian Credit Union in Waterloo, Iowa hired Merideth Bixler as a mortgage loan underwriter. She previously served as a senior mortgage loan underwriter at the $3.1 billion University of Iowa Community Credit Union in North Liberty.

SOUTH

Clay Thompson was promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer of the $572 million Generations Federal Credit Union in San Antonio, Texas. He has served as the credit union's chief lending officer since 2014.

Greg Inman was named chief operations officer of the $724 million Neighbors Federal Credit Union in Baton Rouge, La. He has served as the credit union's senior vice president of retail operations since 2009.

Lauren Whaley was appointed executive director of the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation in Kernersville, N.C. She previously served as vice president of governmental affairs at the Carolinas Credit Union League.

The $2.9 billion Northwest Federal Credit Union in Herndon, Va. announced that it hired Alexzandra Shade as the executive director of the Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation. Shade comes to the foundation with more than 10 years of philanthropic experience including fundraising, partnership development and mentorship at a variety of charitable organizations.

Steve Harkins, president/CEO of the $294 million SC Telco Federal Credit Union in Greenville, S.C. was named one of the top 20 most influential leaders in upstate South Carolina by GSA Business Journal, a publication serving senior-level decision makers. Under Harkin's leadership, SC Telco FCU was named a 2014 Best Place to Work in a statewide competition by the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce.

WEST

Christine Basford joined the $1.5 billion Elevations Credit Union in Boulder, Colo. as a mortgage sales manager. She worked at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage for 22 years and most recently served as sales manager.

After serving 23 years as a member of the board of directors for the $616 million Christian Community Credit Union in San Dimas, Calif., Dr. Eduardo Font retired earlier this year. He served on various credit union committees including the Missions & Ministries Committee and the Senior Loan Committee.
