In January, Robertson, 59, faced five counts of embezzlement. Four counts were dropped in exchange for his guilty plea, according to the Clerk of Courts office.

He used his position as a board attorney for the credit union to embezzle $379,000 from a $484,092 residential construction loan, which he held in trust for the purpose of distributing the funds in accordance with the applicable loan statements, according to the Jackson County District Attorney's office and the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor.

Robertson stole the money from the residential construction loan in April 2013 to pay his own debts, according to local media reports.

Robertson served in the Mississippi State Senate from 1992 to 2008.
