Former National Cooperative Business Association President/CEO Mike Beall accepted a consulting position with the Tacoma, Wash.-based CU Strategic Planning, according to a Nov. 16 press release.
The announcement came after Beall was placed on administrative leave, following a three-year stint at NCBA. Former Cooperative Development Foundation Executive Director Judy Ziewacz was named to replace Beall on an interim basis.
“I achieved what the 26-person NCBA board hired me to do, 'return the organization to strong profitability,'” Beall said in the announcement. “The turn-around effort grew the membership, paid off the organization's debt, doubled the cash reserves, and increased the international division's footprint in Africa.”
Beall joins CU Strategic Planning – a consulting and strategic planning company – as a senior consultant. The position will include community development consulting and creating partnerships between credit unions and other non-profits, as well as developing products and policies and strategic planning, according to the release.
“I'm passionate about working directly with cooperatives and credit unions because I believe that together they have the power to grow and improve communities,” Beall said. “The best place to do that work is with the credit union's leading innovator, CU Strategic Planning.” Beall pointed to the firm's groundbreaking research with Filene on community development and credit union profitability.
In a statement announcing the resignation of Beall, Andrew Jacob, chairman of the board at NCBA, said that Beall successfully made numerous contributions to the financial and business operations of NCBA. According to the statement, Beall will assist as a consultant on an as needed basis at NCBA.
Prior to joining NCBA in 2012, Beall was the CEO at the Missouri Credit Union Association.
