#CUsGiveback connecticut credit unionsCharitable organizations in Connecticut have about 5,000 reasons to look forward to October.

On Oct. 1, charities in Connecticut will have the opportunity to compete for a $5,000 donation courtesy of Connecticut's Credit Unions.

"Connecticut's Credit Unions have donated more than $185,000 back to the community over the past five years, this is another way for us to give back," David Hinchey, director of community impact for the Credit Union League of Connecticut, said. "We're looking to see what the public is passionate about and create additional awareness around all the great local charities we have in this state."

Here's how it works: Local charities and individuals share their picks for their favorite charity and why using the #CUsGIVEBACK hashtag on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and Vine. The 501(C)3 charity must be headquartered in and focused on Connecticut. The organization with the most mentions by Nov. 15 will be awarded $5,000.

Participants can use one or all social media channels and participate every day. The more people who share, the more communities across the state win as charitable causes gain exposure.
