In addition to new hires and promotions announced by credit unions in the east, midwest and south, a young CEO in Louisiana received an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2016 World Credit Union Conference in Ireland for her contributions to the movement, and a California CEO was honored as Volunteer of the Year by a business group.
EAST
Emily Farnham was promoted to assistant vice president of payments at the $1.1 billion Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union in Lowell, Mass. In addition to her 11 years of experience in financial services, she previously served as an assistant treasurer-member service center manager and member service center supervisor.

The $76 million Community Resource Federal Credit Union in Latham, N.Y. hired Christine Somers as a marketing and business development specialist. Previously, she served as an electronic media/community manager at the $200 million Hudson River Community Credit Union in Corinth. Community Resource FCU also welcomed Kevin Henchy as a branch manager. He worked for Equinox of Albany and the $28 million Columbia Greene Federal Credit Union in Hudson.
Ralph Ferland, president/CEO of the $47 million EMMC Federal Credit Union in Bangor, Maine, is retiring this month, according to the Maine Credit Union League. During his 30-year credit union career, he also served on the board of directors of the Maine league for 10 years, including three years as its board chair.
MIDWEST
The $534 million Community 1st Credit Union in Ottumwa, Iowa promoted Greg Hanshaw to chief operating officer. He previously served as human resources director for three years. Before joining the credit union, Hanshaw worked for Dexter Company and also served for 31 years in the Iowa Army National Guard.
The $86 million Parkside Credit Union promoted two employees and hired a new staff member. Connie Gladki was promoted to vice president of finance and accounting. She joined the Livonia, Mich.-based cooperative four years ago and previously served as an accounting manager. Heather Gatewood was promoted to marketing manager. She joined the credit union in 2012 and previously served as a marketing coordinator. Deborah Vigliarolo was hired as vice president of sales and service. She previously served as vice president of business development for the $176 million LOC Federal Credit Union in Farmington, Mich.
Carissa Rothstein joined the $1.7 billion Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union in St. Paul, Minn. as a manager of learning and development. She previously worked as an assistant manager and student credit union advisory at the $600 million Ideal Credit Union in Woodbury.
SOUTH
Stephanie Sievers, president/CEO of the $98 million ANECA Federal Credit Union in Shreveport, La., received the 2015 World Council of Young Credit Union People scholarship for an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2016 World Credit Union Conference in Ireland. She joined 100 young professionals from around the world in the WYCUP program held in Denver last month. As a part of the program, a scholarship was awarded to six nominees who are 35 or younger who have made significant contributions to their credit union system and have the potential to make a global credit union impact.
The $1 billion Commonwealth Credit Union in Frankfort, Ky., hired Stephen Bellas as its chief financial officer. He previously served as vice president of finance at the $1.6 billion TruMark Financial Credit Union in Trevose, Pa. and has worked in the financial services industry for more than 22 years.
The $574 million Orion Federal Credit Union in Memphis, Tenn., hired Adam Thornton as a commercial loan originator. He previously worked at the Advisory Board Company in Washington.
John Perrault was named vice president of the member care center for the $4.8 billion Delta Community Credit Union in Atlanta. Prior to joining the credit union, he worked at Hyundai Capital America in Atlanta and previously served as a vice president at Zions Bancorp and US Bank. Delta Community CU also appointed Kathy Weber as vice president of real estate services. Weber previously worked at Fidelity Bank Mortgage and served as its vice president of regional operations. She previously held similar positions at three other major regional banks.
WEST
Richard Cooper, president/CEO of the $197 million Mendo Lake Credit Union in Ukiah, Calif. was honored as the Volunteer of the Year by the Ukiah Chamber of Commerce. Cooper's selection for the award caps a series of honors that the credit union's staff received because of their extensive volunteer services to the communities in both Lake and Mendocino counties.
