There is no such thing as a summer slump for credit unions around the nation, particularly in the west, where four credit unions announced new hires and promotions.
EAST
Michael F. McCarthy was named board chair of the $651 million Liberty Bay Credit Union in Braintree, Mass. He joined the board of directors 23 years ago and most recently served as its vice chair and audit committee chair.

Sunshine Voisine joined the mortgage department at the $863 million St. Mary's Bank in Manchester, N.H. She joined the nation's first cooperative in 1991 and held multiple member service positions prior to her transition into mortgage lending.
Nicole Andretta was promoted to marketing coordinator at the $182 million First Financial Federal Credit Union in Wall Township, N.J.
MIDWEST
The $3.8 billion Lake Michigan Credit Union hired Mark Orr as a senior mortgage loan officer. The Grand Rapids, Mich-based cooperative also hired Sharon Waldecki as a mortgage loan officer. Orr holds more than 14 years of experience as a mortgage professional and Waldecki, a licensed general contractor, also holds extensive experience in the mortgage and real estate industries.
Sonia Turk was appointed manager of electronic funds transfer at the $1.9 billion United Federal Credit Union. She previously served as a cash management support supervisor at 1st Source Bank in South Bend, Ind. The St. Joseph, Mich.-based credit union also appointed Andrew Tarantino as manager for eCommerce and outbound sales. He joined UFCU 10 years ago and most recently served as a consumer loan products specialist.
SOUTH
The $8.7 billion Security Service Federal Credit Union in San Antonio promoted Laura Cohrs to assistant vice president of account services. As a certified IRA professional, she holds more than 25 years of experience with the cooperative. Security Service FCU also promoted Jesus Garcia to branch manager. He joined the credit union in 2013 as a supervisor in the member contact center.
Rachel Decker was promoted to regional vice president at the $2.6 billion Texas Dow Employees Credit Union. Previously, she served as a member center manager for the Lake Jackson, Texas-based credit union.
WEST
The $1.2 billion Whitefish Credit Union hired Steven Moss as its business lending chief credit officer. He previously served as the Whitefish, Mont.-based cooperative's member business loan manager vice president since 2011.
Willis Chang was promoted to vice president of innovation and application delivery, the $3.6 billion Kinecta Federal Credit Union Manhattan Beach, Calif. announced.
The $1 billion Columbia Credit Union in Vancouver, Wash. promoted Art Newby to executive vice president/chief information officer. He previously served as Columbia CU's senior vice president/chief information officer.
Devorah Allen was hired by the $431 million SkyOne Federal Credit Union in Hawthorne, Calif. to lead its new learning and development department that will provide a comprehensive curriculum of education workshops and employee career development paths.
TRADES
Dick Ensweiler, president/CEO of the Cornerstone Credit Union League, received one of four Distinguished Service Awards during the World Credit Union Conference and America's Credit Union Conference in Denver last month. Presented by the World Council of Credit Unions, the award is the industry's top honor that recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the credit union movement outside of their home nations. The other three individuals honored were Brazil's Roberto Rodrigues, Canada's Scott Kennedy and Jamaica's Aloun Ndombet-Assamba.
John Doulgeris joined the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association as senior vice president of operations. In addition to his more than five years of banking and finance experience, and sever years of senior executive association leadership, he was a business owner for two decades.
