The National Credit Union Foundation has announced the availability of grants of at least $10,000 to develop and implement experiential learning programs around financial education.
The organization described experiential learning as "the process of making meaning from a direct experience," or learning by doing, and cited examples such as reality fairs, retirement fairs and poverty simulations as ways to educate credit union members, executives and staff about financial challenges and solutions.
"At the Foundation, we've seen great success across the country with experiential learning financial education programs such as reality fairs and retirement fairs," Lois Kitsch, a national program director at the Foundation, said. "We want to build on that success and encourage credit unions to submit grant applications to improve people's financial lives through interactive and engaging programs."
The Foundation said it planned to disburse $100,000 total in the grants.
Reality fairs, retirement fairs and poverty simulations are the types of programs the Foundation knows best and favors, the organization said.
