NAFCU's 2015 Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee Conference kicked off May 11 in Louisville, Ky., bringing together credit union board and supervisory committee members from across the country to attend workshops and earn credits toward NAFCU training certificates and CPAs. The conference runs through May 13 at the Louisville Marriott Downtown.

“This conference provides attendees a great opportunity to hone their skills as a strategic leader,” NAFCU President/CEO Dan Berger said in a news release. “The program's sessions and speakers will help prepare board and supervisory committee members to guide their credit unions successfully into the future.”

During his session entitled Board Governance: Sucessfully Leading Credit Unions into the Future, he shared that the success of credit unions begins with the leadership and vision of the board. Given the challenges facing boards continue to explode and multiply, he said progressive boards are required to display a broad range of competence and engagement.

Rogers helped attendees sort through the good and the bad, sharing everything from best practices and board recruitment habits to tracking the relationship between credit union governance and performance. Attendees were also challenged to explore how boards can add more value.

Patrick McCollough, director of internal audit for the $1 billion Arkansas Federal Credit Union in Jacksonville, speaks at NAFCU's 2015 Board of Directors and Supervisory Committee Conference.
