WASHINGTON – CUCollaborate, a startup firm based in Washington, has launched an effort on kickstarter.com to raise funds for a software platform called Credit Union Match.
"Credit Union Match is a search engine that provides more of a targeted approach than other sites that help consumers find credit unions," explained Sam Brownell, the founder of CUCollaborate who sat down with CU Times during CUNA's Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington.
Unlike other search engines that show credit unions or credit union branches in proximity to the user's location, Credit Union Match will ask consumers to fill out a brief survey and, based on that information, search its database for qualifying credit unions.

It's like eHarmony for credit unions," Myles Bristowe, vice president for consumer engagement for PSCU said. The nationwide payment processing CUSO, which has a program called Make Your Money Matter aimed at helping millennials find credit unions, decided to contribute to Credit Union Match's investment effort. However, Bristowe did not reveal how much it would be.
"We're talking thousands, not tens of thousands," he said.
Brownell grimaced at the eHarmony comparison, but said Credit Union Match builds on the comparison of searching for a credit union and searching for a mate.
"Imagine how frustrating it would be using a dating website that simply put you in touch with the singles living closest to you, regardless of their profile," read Credit Union Match's kickstarter page. "That's why Credit Union Match is designed to only present you with your compatible matches."
CUCollaborate is trying to raise $40,000 through kickstarter and has collected $22,683, with 28 more days to go.
