berenstain bears go to a credit union child readingMike Berenstain, heir to the iconic Berenstain Bears franchise, will launch his new book The Berenstain Bears Visit the Credit Union at Grace Park Elementary School in Swarthmore, Pa., Jan. 22.

John D. Unangst, president/CEO of the $857 million Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union in Broomall, Pa., conceptualized the new book. It was commissioned by the Credit Union Network for Financial Literacy, FMFCU's CUSO, which is the exclusive provider of the Berenstain Bears Financial Literacy Program.

The storyline follows the beloved bear cubs, brother and sister Bear, on a school field trip to a credit union branch, where they learn how to save their money and "watch it grow."

Like the cubs in the book, readers are introduced to a teller line, coin counter, vault, the branch manager, and other features of the cooperative.

The program's educational suite was created by FMFCU's staff of certified educators for children in the 18 school districts affiliated with the credit union and its foundation.

According to FMFCU, the book's debut could hold national significance because CUNFL is making the financial literacy suite available to credit unions across the country.

The Berenstain Bears Visit the Credit Union is the only book of its kind that was written for credit unions, which feature a major children's character franchise, FMFCU said. The book advances the principles of wise money management while promoting the benefits of credit union membership.
