The board of directors of the $188 million Champion Credit Union appointed Jake Robinson as president/CEO Wednesday.

Robinson officially takes over Jan. 12, succeeding Mike Clayton, who is retiring after serving as president/CEO of the Canton, N.C.-based cooperative since December 2005. 

Robinson began his career with Champion as a management associate in 2010 and was promoted to project manager in 2012. A year later, he graduated from the Southeast CUNA Management School in Athens, Ga.

After working as vice president of operations, Robinson became COO in 2014.

"Jake is a highly qualified individual of integrity and high morals," Clayton said.  "He is very capable of leading Champion Credit Union into the future."

Champion serves 23,713 members.
