Mary Hughes, the Financial Institutions Bureau Chief of the Idaho Department of Finance, was appointed as a new member of the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council's State Liaison Committee Monday.
Thomas Candon, deputy commissioner of Banking and Securities at the Vermont Department of Financial Regulation, left the SLC Dec. 31, according to the agency.
NASCUS confirmed that Hughes would finish Candon's term, which ends March 31, 2015.
Hughes has served as an officer and director of NASCUS and the American Association of Residential Mortgage Regulators as well as an officer in the Idaho State Bar's business and corporate law section. Hughes is currently an active member of the Idaho State Bar, according to NASCUS.
The other members of the SLC include SLC Chairman David Cotney, commissioner of Banks for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Karen Lawson, director of the Office of Banking within the Michigan Department of Insurance, Lauren Kingry, superintendent of the Arizona Department of Financial Institutions and Financial Services and Michael Mach, Division of Banking Administrator for the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions.
The FFIEC was established under the Federal Financial Institutions Regulatory and Interest Rate Control Act of 1978 to promote uniform standards in the supervision of financial institutions.
The council has six voting members, including chairman of the NCUA; Comptroller of the Currency, Office of Comptroller of the Currency; a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, appointed by the chairman of the board; chairman of the FDIC; chairman of the SLC and director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
