CU Times Correspondent Yvonne "Missy" Baxter was killed late Monday in a car accident in Kure Beach, N.C., a suburb of Wilmington. A resident of Kure Beach, Baxter was an accomplished journalist with 28 years of experience.
She covered fraud and operations for CU Times. In the 18 months she worked for CU Times, she brought attention to insider fraud at credit unions and the reputation risk it created for the industry.
"Missy was a very talented reporter who could always get the scoop," Executive Editor Heather Anderson said. "She inspired all of us with her enthusiasm, wit and talent, and we will miss her."

Baxter was also a contributing writer for Rolling Stone, USA Today and several major metropolitan daily papers. She survived by two adult daughters.
