CUNA told CU Times credit unions' outreach to members of Congress during the trade group's 2015 Governmental Affairs Conference would be strong despite the House being out of session the same week.
CUNA's GAC is scheduled for March 8-12. Credit unions meet with lawmakers on Capitol Hill during the conference as part of CUNA's Hike The Hill program.
CU Times asked CUNA if the GAC dates would be changed after Congress released its 2015 schedule Wednesday that showed a “district work week” scheduled for members of the House March 9-13.
“Efforts to reach out to Congress during GAC will be strong despite the House Majority Leader releasing a schedule showing the House will be out of session during our meeting,” CUNA Media Relations Manager Vicki Christner said.
“We understand that the Senate will be in session and key House and Senate staff members will certainly be on the Hill. Our meetings with these professionals have traditionally been very valuable,” she added.
CUNA announced Gen. Stanley McChrystal, former commander of U.S. and international forces in Afghanistan, as a featured speaker at the GAC next year.
