Every congressional candidate endorsed by the Minnesota Credit Union Network's Political Involvement Committee won their races in the midterm elections.
Democratic Sen. Al Franken, Republican Rep. Erik Paulsen and Democratic Rep. Rick Nolan each won re-election. Republican Tom Emmer won the 6th Congressional District seat held by Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann.
“The candidates we supported are true credit union champions, and we congratulate them on their wins. We will continue to advocate for Minnesota's local, not-for-profit credit unions when Congress reconvenes,” MnCUN President & CEO Mark Cummins said.
MnCUN, the statewide organization that represents credit unions in Minnesota, said the state's credit unions plan to contact their elected officials about industry issues such as raising the member business lending cap, the NCUA's risk-based capital proposal and keeping the credit union tax exemption in place.
“All of these candidates have proven that they are strong credit union supporters, and we were proud to back them in this election,” MnCUN Vice President of Governmental Affairs Mara Humphrey said. “We are looking forward to continuing to work with them on issues and legislation important to credit unions and their members.”
The Political Involvement Committee, along with CUNA's political action committee CULAC, decide which candidates to endorse each election cycle based on their support of credit union causes and their positions on specific industry issues.
