What does the game of basketball have to do with helping kids learn about money management?
Plenty, if you ask the $838 million InTouch Credit Union.
The Plano, Texas-based cooperative has teamed up with the Texas Legends, an NBA D-League team and an affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks, to help kids learn how to manage their money through the ITCU's Bank to Achieve program.
Events are held on select Saturday mornings at ITCU branches where financial literacy education is mixed with several chances for kids to meet Texas Legends players, according to the credit union.
The children can also enter contests for prizes that are presented to winners on the court at home games.
Complimentary tickets to Texas Legends' games are provided to all attendees.
“The Bank to Achieve program is particularly important to us as it has the ability to help young people avoid common pitfalls that can negatively affect money matters and financial experiences throughout their lifetime,” Kent Lugrand, ITCU president/CEO, said.
He added, “We truly appreciate our wonderful relationship with the Texas Legends and look forward to our joint effort at making this exciting educational opportunity for kids a great success.”
