tablets and member serviceCore system developer Symitar has announced the availability of Episys Anywhere, which is new technology that puts key components of a financial institution's core system on a tablet.

Created by apps developer Malauzai in Austin, Texas, the technology allows credit union employees to perform common branch activities on a tablet.

Among the Episys Anywhere's features are account openings, account balance retrievals, transaction history reports, internal account transfers, person-to-person payments and bill payments.

Symitar President Ted Bilke told CU Times that the demand for tools such as Episys Anywhere grows as more financial institutions redefine branch functions as well as the duties of tellers.

Credit union employees can also perform tasks such as account onboarding away from their branches, according to both companies.

The $1.9 billion Grow Financial Federal Credit Union in Tampa, Fla., was the first to embrace the new tablet technology.

"We have been looking for a tablet solution for some time that will allow our staff to open accounts away from the office, whether at a community or SEG event, quickly and easily," Brad Sears, chief information officer at Grow Financial, said in a statement.

Episys Anywhere will give the credit union that ability and more, with its future plans to add teller transaction capability, he added.

"Combining branch functions with the mobility of a tablet will elevate member service and convenience to a whole new level. Imagine being able to take a mini-branch, tuck it under your arm, and take it anywhere you want," Sears said. "That is just part of the potential we see in Episys Anywhere."

Malauzai Co-founder Robb Gaynor told CU Times that three more credit unions are presently implementing Episys Anywhere. The setup process generally took 60 to 90 days.

In development are tools that will allow a supervisor to override a teller function such as accepting for deposit a check that otherwise might be declined.  That supervisor, with Episys Anywhere, could do that from anywhere, Bilke said.

The app presently runs on iPad and, in a browser-based version and is also accessible by Windows mobile tablets such as Surface.  Gaynor said at least some functions also will be made available on iPhones.

Bilke said the app will be offered to Symitar core system clients by the company's sales force.

Gaynor indicated that Malauzai is going forward with developing similar tools for other core systems.

"This is about mobilization of the branch and we hear a lot of excitement about the idea," he said.
