The $1.6 billion Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union welcomed its newest member – former NCUA Board member Michael Fryzel.

"I have been a member of a credit union since I graduated from college. Over the course of a number of years, I have joined three other credit unions for reasons ranging from convenience to great rates," Fryzel said. "This month, I consolidated my credit union accounts into one credit union. The one I chose is Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union."

The credit union made the announcement about Fryzel's new membership in conjunction with the Brooklyn, N.Y.-based cooperative's celebration of International Credit Union Day Oct. 16.

Visitors at all branches were also treated to pqczki, a traditional Polish pastry that day.

Fryzel joined PSFCU at one of the branches that serves Chicago's large Polish community. He also opened accounts on behalf of his wife and six grandchildren, the credit union reported.

Fryzel was nominated to the NCUA board by President George W. Bush on Nov. 30, 2007. He took office as NCUA Chairman on July 29, 2008 and served in that position until Aug. 24, 2009.

In September, he returned to Chicago to practiced law.
