NCUA Board Member J. Mark McWatters named Sarah Vega as his senior policy advisor, the NCUA announced on Wednesday.
Starting in 2009, Vega served as senior policy advisor for former NCUA Board Member Michael E. Fryzel. She was also Fryzel's chief of staff during his time as chairman of the board.
“Sarah's experience in the credit union system, and particularly her nearly six years with NCUA, will be of enormous value to me,” McWatters said. “I look forward to getting to work and having her advice and perspective as we tackle the challenges ahead.”
Before coming to the NCUA, Vega was a project manager and contract attorney with Hudson Legal Chicago, where she focused on mergers, securities and product liability cases.
She also served as director of the Illinois Department of Financial Institutions. Prior to her time as director, Vega was the administrator of the department's credit union division, which regulates state-chartered credit unions.
Vega has also worked as an enforcement attorney in the Illinois Secretary of State Securities Department.
Vega earned a bachelor's degree in political science and a Juris Doctorate from DePaul University.
