The $60 million Palmetto Health Credit Union said it has temporarily blocked debit card transactions in Florida as well as at gas stations in Michigan, North Carolina and Ohio.

The Columbia, S.C.-based credit union took the step after having taken thousands of dollars in losses in just a couple of days, according to Palmetto Health CU President/CEO Hansel Hart.

"Our debit manager and I had a talk about it earlier today and we just decided a temporary block was what we needed to do," Hart said.
