Mark McWatters will be sworn-in as a member of the NCUA Board on Tuesday in Dallas at House Financial Services Chairman Jeb Hensarling's (R-Texas) office.
Outgoing NCUA Board Member Michael Fryzel, a Republican, will swear-in fellow Republican McWatters at the event, according to a source that asked not to be named. Chairman Hensarling is also expected to deliver a ceremonial swearing-in at the event.
NCUA board members are among those authorized to swear in a new board member. NCUA General Counsel Mike McKenna performed the swearing in duties for Vice Chairman Rick Metsger in August 2013.
President Obama nominated McWatters for the NCUA Board in January. The Senate confirmed McWatters in June.
McWatters served as legal counsel for Rep. Hensarling in 2009. He was also a member of the TARP Congressional Oversight Panel from December 2009 to April 2011.
Before joining the NCUA Board, he was dean of graduate programs at Southern Methodist University's School of Law in Dallas.
He will be the NCUA's 21st board member and his term will expire on Aug. 2, 2019.
