William Dokas credit unionThe $1.4 billion American Eagle Federal Credit Union in East Hartford, Conn., announced Thursday that William J. Dokas would retire on Jan. 2, 2015. Dokas has worked at the credit union for 42 years, including 24 years as president/ CEO.

Dokas began his career with the American Eagle in 1972 as a management trainee. He became a loan officer and then a branch manager. In 1980 he became vice president of lending and branch administration and then president/CEO of the then-$270 million credit union in 1990.

Dean Marchessault, the current EVP/COO, will become president/CEO on Jan. 3, the announcement said. He has been with the 103,200-member American Eagle since 2000.

Marchessault has 35 years of financial services experience, including more than 20 years in management and executive positions of increasing responsibility for banks in Connecticut and Massachusetts, American Eagle said in its announcement.

America's Credit Union Museum in Manchester, N.H., said Peggy Powell will retire as its executive director in August. She has spent the past 15 years with the museum, first serving as a consultant before being named executive director in 2001. As executive director, she was directly involved in the restoration of the building that housed the first credit union in the United States. 

The $417 million GFA Federal Credit Union in Gardner, Mass., hired Juliette Andoh as vice president of enterprise risk management. She has more than 10 years of experience in investigation, compliance and audit experience and currently is pursuing certification as an anti-money laundering specialist. GFA also hired Amy Robbin as employee relations officer. She has management experience with employee recruitment, employee relations, compensation, benefits and performance management.

SOUTH

The $865 million IBM Southeast Employees' Federal Credit Union in Delray Beach, Fla., hired Rick Sartory as its director of commercial lending and will lead the credit union's new commercial lending division. Sartory has more than 23 years of commercial lending and banking experience, most recently as a vice president and senior commercial banker at the $3 billion CenterState Bank in Winter Haven, Fla. The $1.9 billion Robins Federal Credit Union in Warner Robins, Ga., promoted Billie Herndon to Forsyth Branch manager and Melanie Weatherspoon to Log Cabin Branch manager. Herndon has 38 years of banking experience and has been with Robins Federal for more than 3 years. Weatherspoon has more than 15 years of banking experience and has been with Robins Federal for the past 12 years. The $5.8 billion Suncoast Credit Union in Tampa, Fla., named Cindy Helton executive director of the Suncoast Credit Union Foundation. Helton began her career at Suncoast Credit Union in 1976 as a member service intern and most recently served as member development director.

MIDWEST

The $1.7 billion United Federal Credit Union in St. Joseph, Mich., hired Michael Doherty as its business operations manager. He had 30 years of financial services experience, most recently as vice president of commercial lending with Northwestern Bank in Traverse City, Mich. UFCU also promoted Mayte Castro to branch manager at its Northwest Branch in Reno, Nev. She had been assistant branch manager at the UFCU Double R Branch in Reno.

The $1.5 billion Royal Credit Union in Eau Claire, Wis., hired Chris Forcier as a financial adviser. He has more than 15 years of financial industry experience and is a registered representative of INVEST Financial Corp. The credit union also hired Danica Johnson as an investment and insurance administrative assistant. She has more than 11 years of experience, most recently working with Forcier.

WEST

The Golden 1 Credit Union hired Walter Cunningham as SVP/chief retail officer of the $8.5 billion credit union in Sacramento, Calif. Cunningham has more than 20 years of financial services experience, most recently as SVP of digital services at Washington State Employees Credit Union in Olympia, Wash.

VENDORS

CUNA Mutual Group in Madison, Wis., named SVP Jeff Bosco to head its wealth management business, including CUNA Brokerage Services. Bosco has more than 25 years of experience and held several leadership positions at American Family Insurance before joining CUNA Mutual in 2011. The Members Group in Des Moines, Iowa,hiredMelanie Barker as COO and EVP. Barker has 25 years of experience with companies that include First Data, TSYS, JP Morgan Chase and Prudential Insurance. She most recently was vice president of the consumer credit card line at UMB Bank in Kansas City, Mo.
