Encouraging member engagement and fostering employee wellness were among the goals in designing SAC Federal Credit Union's new $25 million corporate headquarters, which recently opened in Papillion, Neb., an Omaha suburb, the credit union said.

The 94,000-square-foot building will accommodate the credit union's projected growth for the next 20 to 30 years, according to Gail DeBoer, president of the $694 million, 79,000-member SAC FCU.

“We are excited to be completing this major milestone project for the credit union,” DeBoer said. “The building symbolizes the growth and strength of the credit union.”

The four-level headquarters features innovative banking and design solutions to eliminate traditional teller lines, including allowing members to securely access safety deposit boxes with biometric technology, the credit union said.

Initially, the building will house 115 of the credit union's 220 employees, who will have access to indoor lounges, outdoor patios, a fully equipped kitchen and the CU Fit center, featuring gym equipment, a yoga studio and locker rooms, the credit union said.

Uniting corporate functions under one roof will enhance member services and reduce overall costs, SAC FCU said.

“The credit union's mission of being our members' trusted financial partner, plus our behavioral values – including caring through collaboration, honesty and transparency and critical thinking – guided the construction and the interior planning of the new headquarters,” DeBoer added.

Omaha-based architect and project partner Leo A Daly helped to ensure the use of sustainable building materials, energy-efficient lighting systems and geothermal heating and cooling, the credit union said.

“Overall, our intention was to develop an inviting atmosphere for all who enter the building,” DeBoer said. “From the clear glass office doors to open-air workspaces, each interior decision was made to increase collaboration and communication throughout our business.”

The large atrium features a floating staircase and curtain wall system with clear glass panes, which enhance energy efficiency by allowing natural lighting, the credit union said.

A first-floor community meeting room is available for SAC's nonprofit and community partners to help support their work, the credit union said.

SAC will host a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony May 7 and a community open house May 17.
