Kathy Thomson, who joined the Idaho Credit Union League as a supply clerk in 1973 when there were more than 160 credit unions throughout the Gem State, is now the league's new president/CEO.

Thomson, 60, replaced Christopher Johnson who was dismissed by the league's board of directors in November, just five months after he was appointed president/CEO. Johnson replaced Alan Cameron who retired in June 2013.

When Johnson left, Thomson was named interim president/CEO. The Idaho league board offered the top job to Thomson on Feb. 11. She officially assumed her duties on Feb. 12, becoming the first woman president/CEO in the league's 78-year history.

Over the years, Thomson held various positions and was the league's vice president before accepting the president/CEO job. She holds certifications as a league executive and credit union executive. She also is a credit union development educator.

"Kathy is a capable, devoted and hard-working professional," Shane Berger, board chair, said in a prepared statement. "We have great confidence that she will lead our trade association to future success."

Thomson, 60, is responsible for all of the league's operations, including its for-profit subsidiary, and supervising 10 employees. The Idaho league manages more than $1 million in assets, according to the organization's 2012 IRS 990 forms.

Of Idaho's 43 credit unions, 38 are affiliated with the Idaho league.

"I want to make sure that the league provides the products and services that our credit unions need and want, that we stay relevant to them and that we continue to be an advocate for them," Thomson said.
