Longtime credit union executive Bob Schumacher has retired again, this time from the Paragon Consulting Group.
Schumacher, who retired in December 2011 as CEO of the $85 million MountainCrest Credit Union in Everett, Wash., announced his latest departure Feb. 16 at the Credit Union Volunteer Leadership Institute on Feb. 16 in Hawaii.
Schumacher had participated in the creation of the VLI with Jim This and Mark Johnson about 18 years ago, and had rejoined Paragon recently, said an announcement Monday. This will continue as president of Paragon, now a CUSO of the $883 million TwinStar Credit Union in Lacey, Wash.
“As Bob, and his wife, Diane, segue into their new life, we wanted to … to honor his contributions, but also to say thanks for a great ride together,” This said in the announcement.
According to the Northwest Credit Union Association, Schumacher was recruited into the credit union movement 37 years ago by meeting planners for CUNA while he was working as a hotel manager in Madison, Wis.
Schumacher spent eight years at CUNA, 12 years at the credit union leagues in Washington and Florida, two years at a mortgage CUSO and 15 years at MountainCrest. He was active in World Council of Credit Union efforts in the Philippines and was one of 10 people who were part of the inaugural class of International CUDEs. He continues on the advisory council for the BizKid$ program at the National Credit Union Foundation.
“But if you ask him what was the most exciting and rewarding service he has performed, in addition to running his credit union for nine years, it would be his 15 years of emceeing what has come to be known as the credit union movement's version of the Academy Awards — the NCUF Herb Wegner Memorial Awards. He has and still calls these the best nights of his credit union life,” This said.
