Robert Chavez was named incoming president/CEO of the $2 billion Sandia Laboratory Federal Credit Union in Albuquerque, N.M. Chavez will move into the corner office of New Mexico's largest credit union on March 1, the day after current President/CEO Christopher Jillson retires.
Chavez has been executive vice president and chief operating officer at the 71,600-member credit union since 2002 and has more than 27 years of financial institution experience, SLFCU said in its announcement on Thursday.
Along with community activities, Chavez served on the board of directors for the Credit Union Association of New Mexico, and is currently on NAFCU's Regional Advisory Committee. He also completed a two-year assignment with the i3 program at the Filene Research Institute.
“Robert Chavez has proven himself to be a capable and intelligent leader,” Board Chair Joseph Fink said in the announcement. “We're confident that he has the experience and vision to guide SLFCU into the future.”
