NCUA Chairman Debbie Matz has appointed Board Member Richard Metsger as the NCUA's representative on the NeighborWorks America board of directors.
The organization creates opportunities for lower-income people to live in affordable homes in safe, sustainable neighborhoods that are healthy places for families to grow,” according to their official website.
“I am honored to be asked to serve as a director of this vitally important organization, which serves more than 4,500 communities nation-wide,” Metsger said in a statement on Wednesday. “I look forward to working with my distinguished colleagues in their efforts to create affordable housing opportunities for low-income Americans and their families in safe, sustainable neighborhoods.”
NeighborWorks America CEO Eileen M. Fitzgerald called Metsger a public service veteran with tremendous experience in housing and finance that will help guide NeighborWorks America to strengthen communities across the country.
NeighborWorks America's Board currently consists of presidential appointees that include Chairman Bloom Raskin, member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve; Comptroller of the Currency Thomas Curry; Commissioner of the Federal Housing Administration Carol Galante; and Jeremiah Norton, member of the Board of Directors of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
Matz has served as NeighborWorks America's vice chair since November 2012. She was a member of the NeighborWorks America Board from 2002-2005.
“This unique organization has grown tremendously since my first term,” Matz said in a statement on Wednesday. “NeighborWorks America has become a national leader in foreclosure mitigation counseling by helping millions of homeowners survive the financial crisis. NeighborWorks has earned national recognition by providing state-of-the-art training in affordable housing and community development.”
Matz strongly encouraged credit union officials to partner with NeighborWorks through its network of affiliates in their communities.
“Where affordable lenders join forces with affordable housing providers, these partnerships empower consumers, strengthen communities, and stimulate our nation's economy,” she said.
NeighborWorks America is headquartered in Washington and operates through five regional offices and one national office.
