CULAC, CUNA's federal political action committee, raised a record $2.4 million in 2013 – the best non-election year fundraising total in the organization's history.

In total, $1.5 million of the $2.4 million was donated to candidates and committees. Democrats received 51% of the donations while 49% went to Republicans.

CUNA's PAC starts 2014 with more than $922,000 in cash on hand left over from the previous year.

"This represents nearly an increase of more than 5% over 2012 gross receipts. While it wasn't our best year overall for gross, given that in recent years we have reduced our overhead to effectively zero, 2013 also represents the most raised net of fundraising costs in the history of CULAC," said CUNA Vice President of Political Affairs Trey Hawkins in a statement on Monday.

Hawkins said the results show credit unionsupporters across the country continue to support candidates that share their view of credit unions.
