In the aftermath of multi-state storm Hercules, which closed numerous schools and government offices, credit unions stuck to the motto of delivering service despite rain, sleet or snow.
The $1.1 billion Greylock Federal Credit Union in Pittsfield, Mass., located in the Berkshires, received about 10 inches of snow. However, the cooperative only delayed opening by one hour Friday, even after Gov. Deval Patrick closed the state government due to the large amount of snow, extremely cold temperatures and "worrisome" high tides, according to media reports.
Despite the storm's high winds, credit unions have so far reported no power failures or problem with ATMs and online banking services.

New Jersey credit unions seemed to bear the brunt of the storm. Some were closed for the entire day.
The $1 billion Andrews Federal Credit Union, headquartered in Suitland, Md., opted to close its New Jersey branches Friday, but Maryland and DC locations remained open, according to its Facebook page.
Also, the $326 million Credit Union of New Jersey in Ewing, N.J., closed three of its five branches while two branches opened at 11 a.m., the credit union said.
In New York, it was mostly business as usual on Friday.
"As far as we know, some of our credit unions opened late today, but we haven't been notified of any full closings," said Mindi Schwab, communications director for the Credit Union Association of New York.
In Rhode Island, numerous credit unions opened late Friday, including the $375 million, Middletown-based People's Credit Union, which delayed opening branches until noon.
The storm even caused problems Friday for credit unions in the Midwest.
The $2.6 billion Wright-Patt Federal Credit Union in Dayton, Ohio, closed its Area B Member Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, but Area A and C remained open, the credit union said.
Co-ops in coastal locations in the Northeast also took a hit from the storm, but most managed to keep branches open and services available to members.
The $2 billion Chartway Federal Credit Union in Virginia Beach had announced Thursday on its Facebook page that branches in Wakefield, Cleveland and Newark would not open until 11 a.m. Friday, but the Cleveland office opened on time, the credit union said, despite eight inches of new snow Thursday.
