Employees at the Illinois Credit Union League in Naperville wrapped up its community service and giving for the year by providing toys for the Humanitarian Service Project.
Launched in 1979 to help needy families during the Christmas season in DuPage County, the Humanitarian Service Project provides to 150 impoverished families with three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, fresh produce and gifts for all the children.
Last year the organization distributed more than 25 tons of food and 23 tons of Christmas gifts to 1,636 children.
The toy drive was one of several charitable actions supported and carried out by ICUL this year, the league said.
Throughout the year, ICUL staff participated in a summer food drive, a blood collection drive, and various fund-raising activities that raised thousands of dollars for local and national social service agencies.
“This continued to be a year of great need for many people,” said Dan Plauda, ICUL president/CEO. “Rather than sending out holiday greetings, the Illinois Credit Union System for the fifth year in a row, chose on behalf of its member credit unions to coordinate, organize and participate in these activities. We feel blessed to have been able to give back to our communities.”
