Shawn Lee Nelson, former vice president of lending at the $449 million Members Choice Credit Union in Houston, was sentenced this week to three years in federal prison for embezzling more than $335,000.

Nelson pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Houston in June to embezzling the funds from August 2003 to September 2009 to pay for personal expenses, according to court documents.

He stole the money by opening signature loan accounts in the names of three members, court documents showed.

The fraud was uncovered in 2011, the documents showed. Nelson was sentenced Wednesday.
