Victoria Rozanski, a former part-time credit union manager, will spend 10 months in a federal prison and three years of supervised release for embezzling more than $110,000 from the former Ellwood City Holy Redeemer Parish Federal Credit Union in Pennsylvania.
During the sentencing hearing Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Gustave Diamond in Pittsburgh also ordered the 60-year-old Rozanski to pay $118,157 in restitution.
Court papers show Rozanski stole the money from January 2003 to May 2009 while she worked at the tiny credit union of approximately $600,000 in assets and 225 members. The cooperative merged last year with the $52 million, 7,519-member Freedom United FCU in Rochester, Pa.
While Rozanski worked as the manager for Elwood City Holy Redeemer Parish FCU, she also was employed as a full-time teacher at the Shenango Area School District until she retired in June 2012, court documents show.
Last April, she was indicted on one count of embezzlement.
Even though Rozanski pleaded guilty in July to embezzlement, Father Mark L. Thomas of the Holy Redeemer Parish wrote a character letter to Gustave describing how Rozanski was always willing to donate her time and talents to support various programs and events of the parish community.
The superintendent of the Shenango Area School District also wrote a letter to the judge vouching for the character of Rozanski as an “honest and forthright” individual.
