The NCUA and its staff have been feted for their efforts in gathering and donating more than 22,000 pounds of food in the latest effort by federal employees in the D.C. area.
The agency received the "Fired Up Award" from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for being the agency with the largest increase in donations from 2012, the NCUA said Wednesday.
"NCUA's employees really answered the call this year," NCUA Board Chairman Debbie Matz said. "It's particularly gratifying to know our staff made this great extra effort in a time when the need has grown so quickly."
The agency's donation was nearly 10 times the previous year's and was enough to provide more than 18,000 meals, and 18 NCUA employees reached donation levels that qualified them for the Feds Feed Families Hall of Fame, the NCUA said in an announcement.
The Feds Feed Families program has collected nearly 25 million pounds of food since the government-wide effort began in 2009, the NCUA said.
