After eight years as president/CEO of CUNA Mutual Group, Jeff Post announced late Friday that he will retire at the end of the year, the company said.

Bob Trunzo, president of CUNA Mutual Group Insurance & Financial Services, will succeed Post effective Jan. 1, the Madison, Wis.-based company said in a release.

Since joining CUNA Mutual Group in June of 2005, Trunzo has held a number of senior leadership positions, most recently as president of CUNA Mutual Group Insurance and Financial Services. He becomes the eighth president in the company's 78-year history.

“After a thorough succession planning process and extensive consideration, the Board of Directors is excited to have Bob carry on CUNA Mutual Group's rich tradition and execute our future strategy,” said Eldon Arnold, board chairman.

Trunzo received his bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Kentucky and his law degree from Marquette University. He also completed the Kellogg School of Management Executive Program at Northwestern University in 2011.

A native of Louisville, Ky., Trunzo was Secretary of Commerce under former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and serves on the American Council of Life Insurers' CEO Steering Committee on Retirement and Financial Security.

He also served as chairman of the Southeast Wisconsin Professional Baseball Park Board of Directors, which oversaw the design, financing and construction of Miller Park, home of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Post told Credit Union Times he made the decision on his own to retire from the company. He also said he will assist CUNA Mutual with the company's transition for six months following his official retirement date.

Under Post's leadership, CUNA Mutual completed a three-year transformation plan aimed at positioning the organization for success in its credit union marketplace. The plan included reinvention of the company's sales distribution model, its customer service and its product and investment strategies.

Prior to joining CUNA Mutual in January 2005, Post was president/CEO of Fireman's Fund, a position he held for more than three years before resigning in 2004. As CEO he led a financial turnaround for the company, improving underwriting results by more than $1 billion and repositioning the company to market leadership in five business segments.

In his 10 years with Fireman's Fund, Post also served as the chief financial officer and chief actuary. Fireman's Fund is part of the Allianz Group, a worldwide leader in financial services headquartered in Munich, Germany. In addition to his role as president and chief executive officer of Fireman's Fund, Post served on the parent company's International Executive Committee.

A native of Omaha, Neb., Post grew up in the Midwest and earned a bachelor's degree in business administration, majoring in actuarial science, from the University of Wisconsin in 1981. He has more than 20 years of insurance industry experience. Post is a fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
