For the past six weeks, students from Hillsborough Community College in Tampa have been attending a free weekly financial literacy class put on by the $5.5 billion Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union. Topics such as dealing with debt and budgeting for life after graduation were covered by Brian Smellie, a member financial associate at Suncoast Schools.
“As a recent college graduate, I understand the pitfalls students can easily get into. As tempting as it may be to put everything on a credit card or acquire other types of debt, I believe that immersing yourself in financial education, goal setting and budgeting, college students and young professionals can enter the workforce financially healthy,” Smellie said.
