SOUTH
The $190 million Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union located in Houston, Texas has hired Brett Wooden for the newly created position of senior vice president of marketing and innovation. Prior to joining Cy-Fair, Wooden held positions at Unitus Community Credit Union in Portland, Ore., where he developed a reputation for using technology to attract new members. Wooden is an active member and leader with several credit union industry groups, including the Filene Research Institute, and serves on the Advisory Board for Chatter Yak! Wooden holds a B.A. from Portland State University.
The $7 billion Security Service Federal Credit Union in San Antonio announced that Fred Salyers is its newest community and corporate development manager. Prior to joining SSFCU, Salyers was a production manager for iRex Group, Ltd., a supplier of contract manufacturing services of custom cables, system integration, and electronic sub-assemblies in Austin, Texas. In his seven-year career there, he also served as a safety officer and logistics manager.
WEST
The $1.1 billion Oregon Community Credit Union's in Eugene, Ore., has announced that Jeanine Wallace has officially joined the board of directors. Wallace has more than 14 years of experience specializing in a full range of employee benefits, individual and family health insurance plans. She holds her Health, Life and Consulting license and is currently working on her Registered Health Underwriter and Chartered Healthcare Consultant designations.
The $1.2 billion Vantage West Credit Union in Tucson, Ariz., announced that its chairman of the board, Dale Whittaker, was presented the “Gene Ball Award” on Sept. 27 at the National Association of Credit Union Chairmen Conference in Savannah, Ga. Whittaker has been affiliated with the credit union movement for 56 years, and has been associated with NACUC since 1976. He has attended 35 out of the past 37 annual NACUC meetings. Whittaker is a 39-year veteran of military service. He retired in 1991 as a Command Chief Master Sergeant. Whittaker has served on the board of directors for Vantage West for 43 years.
MIDWEST
The $464 million Honor Credit Union in St. Joseph, Mich., recently named Kathy Becht as its business services manager. Becht will oversee the day to day operations of Honor's business services department. She has been with the credit union for almost 10 years and has worked in numerous departments.
The $59 million Meijer Credit Union in Grand Rapids, Mich., announced the hiring of David Eyke as its lending manager. Eyke joins Meijer after a 22-year career in commercial lending and commercial credit analysis, as well as 13 years experience in building and real estate development. In 1991, he was hired as senior counsel with Michigan National Bank (now Bank of America) where he managed commercial and consumer loan legal matters and credit risk management. Beginning in 2000, he left the full-time practice of law to open his own construction company, but has remained up to date on financial institution regulatory developments. Meijer's Rockford, Mich., branch announced the hiring of Lisa Posthumus as branch manager. Posthumus joined Meijer after a 16-year career in the banking industry working in the Grand Rapids area for two different local banks. Most recently she was managing branches with total assets in excess of $55 million.
The $2.5 billion MSU Federal Credit Union, in East Lansing, Mich., announced the promotions of Lea Ammerman to senior vice president of branches and Samantha Amburgey to senior vice president of remote services. Ammerman has worked for MSUFCU since August 2002, and previously held the position of vice president of branches before being promoted to senior vice president of branches. She brings 25 years of financial services experience to her role and holds a B.A. in Business Administration from Northwood University, and an MBA from Michigan State University.
Amburgey has been with MSUFCU since July of 2004, and was previously the vice president of eCommerce and eServices. She holds a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
VENDORS
Michael W. Steuer Jr., senior vice president at Credit Union Insurance Resource, LLC, in Worcester, Mass. was recently named to the Worcester Business Journal's 2013 40 Under Forty list. Steuer started out at CUIR in 2003 as a broker cold calling on credit unions. After three years, he was promoted to vice president of operations. At CUIR, Steuer is in charge of sales and implementation of products and developing the company's marketing strategies. He maintains existing business accounts throughout the Northeast with up to $1 billion in assets, and manages and trains hundreds of credit union staff members on CUIR's insurance products.
The StoneHill Group in Atlanta Ga., has hired Stephen M. Witters as the firm's system administrator. Witters is a computer network and systems administration professional with 11 years of experience in a variety of technologies. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado.
