CUNA is leading a “Don't Take Tax My Credit Union” national online rally on Wednesday with a focus on delivering the 'Don't Tax' message to Washington.
Rather than rallying supporters at the National Mall – like so many campaigns do – this movement will rally tens of thousands of credit union members nationwide online,” CUNA President/CEO Bill Cheney said in a press release.
“Our digital engagement has been a tremendous success this year, and we hope that support will culminate with our virtual rally,” Cheney said.
In a conference call on Monday, Richard Gose, senior vice president of political affairs at CUNA, said many state credit union leagues would be represented on Capitol Hill Wednesday while the online rally takes place across the nation.
Among the leagues visiting the nation's capital are Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska and Ohio. Gose said more than 150 people will be participating in meetings on Capitol Hill and doing a separate, onsite rally at Credit Union House.
“Don't Tax My Credit Union” is “a national campaign dedicated to ensuring Congress doesn't raise taxes on 96 million credit union members nationwide and preserves financial choice for American consumers.”
As part of the campaign's outreach efforts, the public can contact their member of Congress by filling out a form on DontTaxMyCreditUnion.org.
Gose mentioned that CUNA has reached over 1 million contacts in their system.
“Don't Tax My Credit Union” recently won a silver W3 award in the web video animation category of the competition, Gose also announced.
The W3 awards are “sanctioned and judged by the International Academy of the Visual Arts, an invitation-only body consisting of top-tier professionals from a 'Who's Who' of acclaimed media, interactive, advertising, and marketing firms,” according to the W3 website.
The awards honor “creative excellence on the Web, and recognizes the creative and marketing professionals behind award winning sites, videos and marketing programs.”
International Academy of the Visual Arts members include executives from Microsoft, MTV Networks, Disney, The Ellen Degeneres Show, Victoria's Secret, Coach, Yahoo! and others.
