To better reflect its larger field of membership and expanded services, GaPac Community Federal Credit Union in Bellingham, Wash. has changed its name to WestEdge Credit Union, the $52 million institution announced recently during a community appreciation event.
WestEdge joins a growing list of credit unions changing their brand to better reflect more diverse memberships and services.
The 4,000-member credit union also introduced a new website, introduction video and logo, which pays tribute to Georgia Pacific West, the paper mill that the credit union was named after. Following the mill's closure in 2002, the charter was expanded to allow all Whatcom County residents to join.
The new WestEdge brand is designed to make people aware that the credit union is no longer just open to employees of Georgia Pacific, officials said.
