The Credit Union Association of New York launched its week-long “Don't Tax My Credit Union,” initiative Monday, which will include a rally on Thursday in Albany.

Throughout the week, credit unions across New York are being encouraged to engage their staff and members in contacting U.S. Congress with the “Don't Tax My Credit Union” message.  The association has posted several resources on its website at https://www.cuany.org/DontTaxMyCU, from campaign links to social media resources.

To build additional awareness about the importance of credit union tax exemption, a rally will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at CUANY headquarters.

Rally speakers will be CUANY President/CEO William Mellin; Paula Stopera, president/CEO of the $1 billion CAP COM FCU; Curt Cecala, president/CEO of the $156 million TCT FCU in Ballston Spa, N.Y.; Lucy Halstead, chief operating officer/SVP of the $272 million First New York FCU in Albany; and Michael Tobler, president/CEO of $13 million Albany Firemen's FCU.

All credit union professionals, volunteer leaders and members are invited to attend the event.

CUANY is also coordinating a statewide Don't Tax My Credit Union postcard campaign. Nearly 100 credit unions are collecting staff and member signatures on postcards over the next several days. The postcards will be hand-delivered to the offices of U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, both New York Democrats.
