The League of Southern Credit Union & Affiliates has awarded eight credit unions from Alabama and Florida with 12 Dora Maxwell, Louise Herring and Alphonse Desjardins awards.
The $1.1 billion Army Aviation Center Federal Credit Union in Daleville, Ala., won a first-place Dora Maxwell award, a first-place Desjardins Youth award and a second-place Louise Herring award.
“It's an honor to be chosen as a winner of these awards,” said Army Aviation Center Federal Credit Union Vice President of Marketing Lisa Hales. “It affirms our dedication to the credit union philosophy of 'people helping people' and giving back to the communities we serve.”
The $1.4 billion Central Florida Educators Federal Credit Union in Lake Mary, Fla., won a first-place Louise Herring award and a second- place Dora Maxwell award.
The $368 million First Commerce Credit Union in Tallahassee, Fla., won a first-place Dora Maxwell award and a first-place Louise Herring award.
“Commitment to community is one of our core values,” said First Commerce CU President/CEO Cecilia Homison. “Through the Champions for Charity initiative, we reach out to our community and call on their passion for Seminole sports programs to support charitable organizations in their quest for funding.”
Also taking home first place honors in the Dora Maxwell category were the $133 million Florida State University Credit Union in Tallahassee and the $40 million Tallahassee-Leon Federal Credit Union.
The Dora Maxwell Award recognizes credit unions for social responsibility projects within their communities. The Louise Herring Award is awarded for a credit union's internal programs and services that benefit the membership. And the Desjardins Youth award recognizes financial literacy initiatives.
Each first-place winner is sent to CUNA for national award consideration. The winners will be honored at the 2014 CUNA GAC in Washington, D.C.
