The NCUA Board will be back at full strength after former Oregon state senator Rick Metsger is sworn in on Aug. 23.
The agency's general counsel, Michael McKenna, will administer the oath of office to Metsger at 10 a.m. that Friday in a private ceremony on Capitol Hill, the NCUA said Wednesday.
David Shetler will be his interim senior policy advisor until a permanent candidate is selected, the agency said. Shetler is a 26-year agency veteran and currently deputy director of the Office of National Examinations and Supervision.
Metsger, a former credit union board member, was nominated by President Barack Obama in mid-May. He was confirmed by the Senate on Aug. 1, after a June 27 confirmation hearing before the Senate Banking Committee, and his term expires Aug. 2, 2017.
He succeeds Gigi Hyland, who left the board last fall and was recently named executive director of the National Credit Union Foundation. She served 14 months after her term expired. Current Board Member Michael Fryzel also is now serving past his term expiration.
