The $78 million Parkside Credit Union in Livonia, Mich., is celebrating its 60th anniversary this month with “Sixty Years Serving You” Member Appreciation Days, which will feature refreshments, giveaways, prize drawings, special guests and free on-site shredding of documents for all members at two locations.
“The 60-year anniversary of the founding of the credit union is an exciting milestone,” said Martin Carter, CEO of the 13,800-member institution in suburban Detroit. “We are proud of the heritage we have established and want to celebrate this momentous occasion with our members and staff who've made this growth possible.”
In honor of the anniversary, Carter said, the credit union has invited some prominent members from the past to participate in the upcoming celebrations, including 93-year-old John Reyman, Parkside CU's longest tenured member.
Reyman, who still resides in the area, helped form Parkside in 1953 with 20 other individuals, the credit union said.
As a volunteer board member and also an employee at the time the credit union formed, Reyman was responsible for soliciting new memberships and developing new products and services, the credit union said, and with his assistance, the credit union gained over 100 members in the first few years.
