When 2,100 credit unions enrolled in CUNA Mutual Group's "Go Paperless" campaign, an estimated 90 trees were spared and 750,000 sheets of paper saved.
The campaign also generated a $10,540 contribution to the National Credit Union Foundation by CUNA Mutual on participants' behalf.
Through the campaign, which ran from May 1-June 30, CUNA Mutual delivered insurance policies "paperlessly" to participating credit unions and was a part of the insurer's "green advocacy" effort, the organization said.
CUNA Mutual said it contributed $5 to NCUF on behalf of each participating credit union.
A CUNA Mutual Group policy package averages 264 pages. With 6,000 credit union policies in force, the total number of printed pages can exceed 1.5 million per year.
The Madison, Wis., company, which began making policies available online in 2012, saw the campaign as a positive step toward increased environmental sustainability.
"Although the campaign is over, we encourage our remaining credit union customers to sign up," said Jennifer Norr, director of customer operations. "It's better for our environment, our customers and our company."
