Heather Anderson has been promoted to executive editor of Credit Union Times effective Aug. 5.
Anderson has been the publication's Washington reporter since April 2012 and had served as a San Diego-based correspondent from 2005 through 2010.
In her new role, Anderson will be responsible for the activities of Credit Union Times' staff reporters, editors and designers and for the weekly print publication. She will report to Publisher/Editor Sarah Snell Cooke and succeeds Managing Editor Donald Shoultz, who will be leaving Credit Union Times on Aug. 2 and has launched an editorial consultancy.
“We want to thank Don for his astute judgment, keen editing and steady hand the past five years,” Cooke said.
“We're also very proud of Heather and her work. She's a tireless journalist who knows the business extremely well,” Cooke said. “With her at the helm, we're confident we'll continue to provide the most comprehensive, unbiased, independent coverage in the credit union industry.”
Anderson is a graduate of Kansas State University's A.Q. Miller School of Journalism. Prior to joining CU Times, she was a freelance journalist who placed articles in major newspapers including The Los Angeles Times, San Diego Union-Tribune, Austin American-Statesman, Cleveland Plain Dealer and Kansas City Star.
She also worked in marketing and business development at the $366 million SkyOne FCU and the $1 billion First Entertainment Credit Union, and provided marketing and business development consulting services to credit unions in Southern California.
“I'm thrilled to have this opportunity to advance at such a well-respected publication,” Anderson said. “And, it's icing on the cake to do so within the credit union industry, where I've spent my entire career.”
