The $808 million CreditUnionONE in Ferndale, Mich., is proving the importance of working closely with communities by assisting the City of Ferndale, which was in dire need of temporary office space, the credit union said.
City officials recently approached the 106,000-member credit union, seeking to use a portion of office space in a building owned by Credit Union ONE while the Detroit suburb's current offices are being remodeled.
Credit Union ONE agreed to allow the city to use part of the building located across from Ferndale's main city offices. After obtaining approval from the City Council, the 43rd District Court and part of the local police department moved into the Credit Union ONE building.
“We couldn't be happier to have such a partner as Credit Union ONE in this project,” April Lynch, Ferndale's city manager, said in a press release announcing the move. “It was a wonderful convenience to be able to move just across the street thanks to the accommodation by Credit Union ONE.”
According to the city, the renovation is expected to take approximately a year to complete.
“This is what community is all about, reaching out and helping when we can,” said Thomas Schaeffler, executive vice president and COO of Credit Union ONE. “It was very professional and enjoyable working out the details with the City of Ferndale.”
