The adage, “every cloud has a silver lining,” seems true for Danelle Loyd, a member of the $808 million Credit Union ONE in Ferndale, Mich.
Loyd's bicycle was stolen earlier this month outside a local branch, but she recently received a new bike from a good samaritan who is a vendor with the 106,000-member suburban Detroit credit union.
Credit Union ONE vendor Mike Lammers with the Airea Company, an office furniture supplier in Farmington Hills, Mich., donated the new bicycle because he happened to be in the branch when Loyd reported the crime and saw that the young woman was upset about losing her bike, said Credit Union ONE.
A few days after the incident, Lammers delivered a new bike to the branch and credit union officials called Loyd to share the unexpected good news.
“I am so appreciative and feel so blessed that someone thought of me and gave me a new bicycle,” Loyd told Credit Union ONE officials who coordinated the charitable gesture.
“These are the stories that we seldom get to hear, the ones that show the true “people helping people” spirit is alive and well within credit unions,” Jan White, Credit Union ONE Manager of Risk Management, said in a press release. “We greatly appreciate working with people like Mike Lammers; he certainly is a good example of paying it forward.”
