Former NCUA board member and CUNA executive Gigi Hyland will become the executive director of the National Credit Union Foundation on Aug. 26.

CUNA made the announcement today. Hyland, a former CUNA executive, served on the NCUA Board from 2005 until October 2012.

Hyland succeeds Bucky Sebastian, who retired in June.

"Gigi brings a wealth of credit union experience and an understanding of the non-profit sector that will serve the Foundation well," said NCUF Chairman Laida Garcia, president/CEO of the $397 million floridacentral Credit Union in Tampa.

Hyland has also served as senior vice president and general counsel of the former Empire Corporate FCU. She will operate from CUNA's office in Washington, D.C., where she had served as CUNA's vice president of corporate credit union relations and executive director of the Association of Corporate Credit Unions from 1997 to 2002, CUNA said.

"I am excited about this opportunity and anxious to begin working with the great team and board that we have at the Foundation, as well as its many credit union supporters," Hyland said in the announcement.

"The Foundation is well-positioned to continue to be a leader in financial literacy and education, which has never been more important for consumers and remains as one of the core missions of the credit union system," Hyland said.
